FUMC-Hershey Church Needs

  • Telephone Volunteers Needed - On September 21, we will celebrate the beginning of our Capital Campaign endeavor with a “Kick-Off dinner and program. Invitations to this event will be mailed to people the third week of August. We need approximately 50 volunteers to make calls to confirm reservations for this event. There will be a SHORT training session on August 25 at 7 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. If you can participate in this project, please contact Penny Bower at 652-5709. Thank you!

  • Short –Term Service Opportunity  – Volunteers needed for summer painting project at FUMC-Hershey church, inside and outside – contact Mark Crowther 533-9668.

  • Buddy Volunteers - Volunteers needed for “Buddies” on Sunday Mornings and during the week of Vacation Bible School (August 4th-8th from 9:00-11:30 a.m.). “Buddies” are 1-1 caring helpers for children with special needs. Training provided. Contact Laura Gingrich to request a Buddy for your child or become a Buddy. 533-9668 ext. 116

  • Monthly Coordinator for trips to Mission Central needed. Contact Mission Committee.

  • Computers Needed at Mission Central –  Have a PC or related equipment to donate to churches, oversees mission and ministries?   • Youth Meals Needed – Sunday nights at 6 p.m., no cost to you/just your time. Volunteers need not have youth to help. Contact Jennifer Davis-Lewis at 534-9110.

  • FUMC Tape Ministry needs volunteers to copy Sunday worship tapes and deliver to 3-5 homebound members wishing to “worship with us” each week. If you want to help with this worship ministry, contact Carol Grunden at 533-9668.

September 7 - Fall Sunday School Begins

 

September 10 - Wednesday Night Bible Study/Cookout –  6:30 p.m. at Greene’s home, 415 Center Ave, Hershey – RSVP to Sue Kellner, 533-2856 for what to bring [meat and drinks provided] – Rain or Shine! – next class, September 17 at 7 p.m. in Lounge.

September 13 - FUMC-Hershey to provide chicken barbecue and other food for the Milton Hershey Birthday Bash in downtown Hershey. All proceeds will support the FUMC-Hershey Building Fund. Tickets sales will begin August 17, 2008. There will be tables set up in the FUMC-Hershey Narthex and Fellowship Hall for every worship service on 8/17, 8/24, 8/31, and 9/7. Tickets can also be pre-purchased from any Council member or Building Committee member. Chicken barbeque tickets are $7 and include: ½ breast of chicken, baked potato, corn, applesauce, roll with butter, plus utensils with a napkin, salt and pepper! (The chicken meal will be provided by the Halifax Fire Company.) The food stand will feature hot dogs, barbecue sandwiches, chips, hot and cold drinks, and DELICIOUS HOMEMADE DESSERTS! Come select from cookies, brownies, pies (whole and slices), and small loaves of specialty breads!

 

Community events that day include burial of a time capsule in front of the new Hershey Museum between 11 and 11:30 a.m. followed by a concert in Chocolatetown Square until 1:30 p.m.

Join us for this celebration and eat your chicken meal in one of FUMC-Hershey's Outdoor Cafe’s!

October 12 - The Ministers of Music Concert - 3 p.m. in the Sanctuary - All members are or at one time were Ministers Of Music in a church. Lamar Dourte, first tenor, has sung with the group since it started 28 years ago; Steve Fickert, second tenor, is Director of Music at Harvest Presbyterian church; John Frye, accompanist, is Pastor of Worship at Calvary Church; Robert Kettering, baritone, is Senior Pastor at Lititz Church of the Brethren, he is also an accomplished organist and pianist, and is a charter member of the group; Ronald Ludwick, bass, is pastor of the Lebanon Church of the Brethren.
